I’ve lived in Florida my whole life, so I understand just how ridiculously hot it can get here. But literally nothing is worse than a Disney day in the middle of the summer.
It’s so important to prioritize your health and preparedness before visiting a theme park in the summer. Find out how to do so below!
Get a fan, and use it. If you buy it in the park, it’s a little over $22, and $17 with your annual passholder discount. Make sure you buy it in an outside stand if you want it filled up with ice cold water and batteries! If not, bring your own fan!
Bring your reusable water bottle.
- You can fill it up for free at Disney restaurants or water fountains for free!
Bring your own snacks.
- Pack fruit and protein bars in a lunchbox. It may seem silly, but it’ll save you so much money once you get there, and will provide you with a refreshing snack during your afternoon energy crash.
Sunscreen.
- The UV index gets to a high of 11-13 in the afternoon in June. I’ve gotten second degree burns from an 11 index before. Trust me on this one.
Take advantage of inside rides, shows, and meet and greets.
- If you insist on going on big, outside rides, get fast passes for them so you don’t have to be in the sun as long.
Plan ahead.
- Only bring what you need, but make sure you’re prepared for the heat. The more you carry, the warmer you’ll be.
Drink tons of fluids.
-
- This should go without saying, but be aware of the liquids you’re putting in your body. For example, iced coffee tastes refreshing, but it’s actually just dehydrating you. Opt for an ice cold Powerade if water doesn’t do it for you
Be strategic about footwear.
- Sure, you want to be as comfortable as possible with your sneakers, but you also have to consider one thing: rain. Florida is extremely hot, but the precipitation can be completely unpredictable. My favorite Disney footwear choice is my Chacos. They’re strapped sandals made for walking, which are perfect for the rain because they’re waterproof. I can’t imagine walking around disney all day in wet socks–the actual worst possible situation.
This isn’t the time to wear a full face of makeup.
- Trust me. This is a mistake I make every time I go to Disney. Yes, the pictures are cute. But I get so uncomfortable so quickly because I can feel my face literally melting. If you have to wear makeup (which I totally get), bring makeup wipes. Take your pictures earlier in the day and let your face breathe later.
Be smart about the clothes you wear.
- If your clothes make your uncomfortable at home, imagine them in humidity and 95 degree heat.
- Bonus Disney Tip: Invest in a charging stick. They’re $15 and can be swapped for fully-charged ones at most merchandise stores. All you need is a connective wire for your cellular device!
Remember: have fun, be prepared, and drink lots of water!
